Saturday Volunteering: We're Rolling!

It has been delightful to witness a surge of interest in our recent Saturday Work Days. Maybe it's the nice weather or breaks from school/work or an easing in pandemic fears. Whatever the reason(s), it's been great to have so many volunteers helping at the shop.

Joanna is an employee of Google that discovered the bike exchange through a company email that said the Bike Exchange needed volunteers to help repair and restore bikes for a good cause.  She thought it would be fun to help others and a good learning experience because she had just purchased her first bike as an adult.  Saturday was her first day volunteering and she worked on a nice women's bike with another volunteer.  The bike needed a lot of work.  She had fun putting the bike together from scratch.

Nick is a "regular" volunteer for the Bike Exchange. He first volunteered for the Bike Exchange with his son as part of a Boy Scouts project. He enjoyed it so much that he has kept coming back since. Working on the bikes gives Nick the feeling of accomplishment and pride knowing that all of the bikes that he repairs are helping others. Nick appears to be an expert at repairing bikes now.

Bob has been a volunteer of the Bike Exchange for many years. He found the bike exchange because he needed a place to donate a bike that a friend had left at his house. The bike had been sitting at his house for many years and it was decided that the best thing to do with it was to donate it instead of letting it end up at a landfill. He ended up volunteering his time because he discovered how much fun he had on the first day. He had already had previous bike repair knowledge and through volunteering, he relearned all of it and even a few new things.
